The Concert Mile – Four Concerts by the Seaside

The popular concert series “Audio Spa” takes the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) out of the academic concert hall, offering listeners exciting musical journeys and new horizons. As this season’s concerts take place in various locations across Tallinn with stunning seaside views, the series carries the subtitle “The Concert Mile”.

The opening concert features the cult masterpiece Music for Airports by ambient music pioneer Brian Eno. The goal of the British composer’s legendary album Ambient 1: Music for Airports is to soothe travelers’ fear of flying with music that diffuses into the atmosphere, brightening the surrounding environment. The idea was sparked by Eno’s own frustrating experience at Cologne Bonn Airport, where irritating background music made his pre-flight anxiety unbearable. Released in 1978, Music for Airports has since been installed in several airports worldwide. The piece was first adapted for the concert stage by the ensemble Bang on a Can All-Stars, who also performed it for Tallinn audiences in 1999.

The season continues with discoveries in Tallinn’s trendiest maritime settings:
This autumn, an exciting new venue Taru Nature House opens its doors in the Noblessner district. ERSO’s performance here will immerse the audience in music inspired by the sounds of nature.

A favorite destination for film and art enthusiasts, Kai Art Center will host an ERSO quartet in January for a concert featuring a uniquely curated and captivating program, featuring the works of Jonny Greenwood, Pēteris Vasks, and Arvo Pärt.

In April, the “Audio Spa” series offers an atmospheric evening at the Old City Harbour Cruise Terminal. Guests can enjoy the sunset over the horizon, perfectly complemented by beautiful music.
