At Kai Art Center, the ERSO String Quartet presents a programme that brings together beautiful meditative music and rhythmic minimalism. Arvo Pärt’s Fratres is one of the composer’s best-known and most beloved works. It has been used in many films to heighten dramatic moments, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood (2007). The film’s original music was written by Jonny Greenwood, known as a member of the rock band Radiohead. In Steve Reich’s energetic Triple Quartet, the musicians perform together with pre-recorded sound material, creating a gripping and intense string sound. The programme ends with a version for strings of The Fruit of Silence, a popular choral work by Latvia’s best-known contemporary composer, Pēteris Vasks. This slow, gentle, and mysteriously timeless piece is based on Mother Teresa’s peace prayer.
The artistic director of the concert is Theodor Sink.
