A sunset concert at the Cruise Terminal brings the audience music inspired by light, movement and sea voyages. In this varied programme, each work unfolds in a different palette of sound, as ERSO musicians appear on stage in ever-changing ensembles.
The concert opens with Light Screens, a spirited work by American composer Andrew Norman, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s art-glass windows. The Swedish folk song Who Can Sail Without a Breeze?, arranged by Mogens Andresen, is performed by a trombone quartet. The programme continues with Gabriella Smith’s meditative ensemble work Maré and Tõnu Kõrvits’s cello piece Rändaja laul. Among the concert’s most substantial works are sea poems with an impressionistic hue by Tōru Takemitsu and Jüri Reinvere. The evening concludes with Philip Glass’s suggestive rhythmic patterns in a dialogue between double bass and timpani.
