Programme

Béla Bartók
Concerto for Orchestra

Franz Schubert
Symphony No. 8 in B minor (completed by Mario Venzago)

Swiss conductor Mario Venzago is a sensitive interpreter of Romantic music and a visionary re-interpreter of large-scale symphonic forms. Venzago is also an active composer, having written several orchestral works and two operas.
At the heart of this concert is his version of Franz Schubert’sUnfinished” Symphony, which sparked both excitement and debate in the music world. Venzago created a complete, finished form of the work by utilizing Schubert’s sketches and weaving in music from the play Rosamunde. The program also includes another monumental opus: Béla Bartók’s vividly intense Concerto for Orchestra, where every instrument section takes a turn in a virtuosic solo role.
