This concert focuses on Romanticism and symphonic maritime poetry. The soloist for Fryderyk Chopin’s popular First Piano Concerto is Havryil Sydoryk, winner of last year’s “Classical Stars” competition. Despite being a teenager, the virtuoso is already an experienced performer. In the second half, Dutch conductor Bas Wiegers, a frequent guest in Tallinn, brings impressionistic sea-themed works to the stage: Jean Sibelius’ mythological poem The Oceanides and Claude Debussy’s peerless tonal painting La Mer. The concert opens with a new work by the young composer Madli Marje Gildemann.
