Helena Altmanis started taking violin lessons at the Keila Music School in 1984. In 2000 she continued her studies at the Georg Ots Music School  in the viola class of  Viljar Kuusk. In 2005 she received her Bachelors Degree and in 2011 Masters Degree form the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre also under Viljar Kuusk. In 2004 she studied with prof. Richard Wolf at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht in Holland. She has participated in masterclasses given by Alksander Bobrovski, Avri Levitan, Wolfgang Kols and Lars Anders Tompter.

Helena has worked in Estonian National Opera orchestra from 2003 to 2007 and since 2006 she is a member of Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. She is also active in various orchestral and chamber music projects in Estonia. She is a member of Prezioso String Quartet since 2012.
