The concerts in the Maestro series are dedicated to ERSO’s chief conductors throughout the orchestra’s history in celebration of its anniversary year. Maestro Neeme Järvi, who has led ERSO during two separate periods, highlights his long-standing and fruitful collaboration with pianist Kalle Randalu. The concert celebrates Randalu’s 70th birthday and features music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose works the pianist has described as one of the great loves of his life.
The programme includes Mozart’s graceful and virtuosic Rondo in D major and the bright, joyful Piano Concerto in F major. Randalu has also recorded the concerto together with ERSO and Neeme Järvi, making it a work closely connected with their long musical partnership.
The Estonian National Opera Young Men’s Choir and EAMT choir’s male ensemble joins the orchestra for Richard Strauss’s Austria, a work for large orchestra and male choir. Its grand sonorities reveal Strauss’s gift for rich orchestral colour and powerful, expansive musical gestures.
The programme also features German composer Joachim Raff’s Symphony In Autumn. Inspired by the changing season, the symphony evokes vivid images of nature and moves through contrasting autumnal moods, from warmth and luminosity to more dramatic and contemplative shades.
