British conductor, organist, and pianist Wayne Marshall returns to lead the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra following his sold-out performances in December 2019. Marshall is a masterful and versatile musician, equally at home on the podium or as a soloist at the piano or organ.
From 2014 to 2020, Marshall served as Chief Conductor of the WDR Funkhausorchester, and from 2007 to 2013, he was the Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi. He is a celebrated interpreter of Gershwin, Bernstein, and other 20th-century American composers. His credits include conducting Bernstein’s “Candide” (Berlin State Opera, Opéra de Lyon), “Mass” (Orchestre de Paris), and “White House Cantata” (Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra).
Marshall’s wide-ranging repertoire also includes John Harbison’s “The Great Gatsby” (Semperoper), Jake Heggie’s “Dead Man Walking” (Opéra de Montréal), and numerous productions of George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess”, including at the Opéra-Comique, Washington National Opera, Dallas Opera, and Vienna State Opera.
