The programme of the Arvo Pärt Days shows how the lives and works of composers are intertwined. As the leading avant-garde composers of the Soviet Union and like-minded people, Sofia Gubaidulina and Arvo Pärt shared experiences and had to deal with censorship and forced emigration. Both gained wider renown in the West at the beginning of the 1980s with works for violin dedicated to Gidon Kremer: Pärt’s Tabula Rasa for two solo violins, and Gubaidulina’s violin concerto Offertorium. Violinist Sergey Krylov will perform in front of ERSO as a soloist, who, as the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the successor of Saulius Sondeckis, a good friend to both Pärt and Gubaidulina, continues to perform and pass on the legacy of both composers.
