Tõnu Jõesaar

TÕNU JÕESAAR cello
ENSO member from 1988, Principal Cello 1992–1996

Tõnu Jõesaar started studying the cello in Tallinn Music High School (Laine Leichter) and later completed his musical studies in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Toomas Velmet). He has participated in a number of international chamber music courses in Sweden and the Netherlands.

Tõnu Jõesaar has been the principal cellist of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, as well as played in various ensembles in Estonia: Tallinn String Quartet, Noobel Nelik, Tallinn Baroque, Rondellus and Baltic Baroque. He is also a sought after basso continuo player and has collaborated with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra and Opus X in Finland, Latvian National Opera’s producti on of Handel’s Alcina, and Estonian National Opera’s production of Handel’s Julius Caesar.

Tõnu Jõesaar is an active member of the following ensembles: Floridante, C-JAM, Ars Revalia, Ardor, gamba consort väike
rinG, Corelli Consort, and Klaaspärlimäng Sinfonietta.
Tõnu Jõesaar is a professor of the viola da gamba in Collegium Educationis Revaliae (Old Town Educational College).
