TAAVI ORRO clarinet

Estonian clarinettist Taavi Orro enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician and orchestral player. Notable recent performances include collaborations with Klangforum Wien, recitals at festivals AFEKT and COMMUTE in Tallinn and performance of Steve Reich’s ‘New York Counterpoint’ at the Estonia Concert Hall (Tallinn, Estonia). In 2022 Taavi founded a clarinet-piano duo with the American pianist Robert Fleitz. An exponent of 20th and 21st century music, Duo Orro & Fleitz has performed internationally including in Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Italy. They are prizewinners of the 3rd International Music Competition ‘Marcello Pontillo’ which took place in Florence, Italy in 2022.
Taavi completed his Bachelor of Arts at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover under the tutelage of Johannes Peitz, before receiving his Master of Music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Harri Mäki. In addition, he has studied with Björn Nyman, Sebastian Manz, Wolfgang Meyer, Tõnu Kalm, Vello Sakkos and Meelis Allsoo. Taavi has participated in masterclasses with Charles Neidich, François Benda, Franklin Cohen, Eli Eban and Matthew Hunt.
Taavi has collaborated with Klangforum Wien (Austria), Ensemble for New Music Tallinn (Estonia), Ensemble ur.werk (Germany) and Schallfeld Ensemble (Austria). Highlights include Baltic Music Days, Festival AFEKT and COMMUTE Festival (Estonia), IEMA Klangspuren Schwaz (Austria), Hans Zender Academy (Germany), Grafenegg Academy (Austria), Sarasota Music Festival (USA), Tongyeong International Music Festival and Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival (South-Korea). Taavi has also worked with German hornist Marie-Luise Neunecker and members of the Minguet Quartet at Villa Musica (Schloß Engers, Germany).

Since 2019 Taavi is a member of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.
