Soo-Young Lee was born in Seoul and began her musical study on violin at an early age. She began playing the clarinet at the age of twelve. Soo-Young Lee holds a Bachelor of music degree with summa cum laude from the Seoul National University studying with Dong-Jin Kim, a Master of Music degree with distinction from the School of Music und Performing Arts in Graz studying with Prof. Stefan Schilling and Konzertexamen degree from Hochschule für Musik in Detmold studying with Prof. Thomas Lindhorst.
During her studies she participated in Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy and Luzern Festival with Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has performed as soloist with Member of Bielefelder Philharmoniker and Northwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford, Rumania National Orchestra, Wiener Koreanische Philharmonie, Korean Philharmonic Orchestra and Seoul Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and also performed as chamber music and orchestra player at international music festivals in Seoul, New York, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Norway and Estonia. She won the 1st prize in Woohyun Wind Instrument Competition in Seoul (2005), the special prize in the 3rd International Woodwind and Percussion Competition at Moscow Conservatory (2011), and the 1st prize in Alumni-/AStA Interpretation Competition at Hochschule für Musik Detmold (2013).
She has been invited to International Musik Competition ARD, the Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition, the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen and Prague Spring International Music Competition. She is a current member of Detmold Chamber orchestra and collaborates with New Theatre Ensemble in Tallinn. She gave her first master class at Estonian Music and Theatre Academy in 2015.
