{"id":353,"count":4,"description":"<img class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-15803\" src=\"https:\/\/erso.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Lai2-2-600x312.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"312\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>ERSO 100 CONCERT SERIES<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Selected concerts of the Centenary Season<\/strong>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img class=\"alignnone wp-image-15807 \" src=\"https:\/\/erso.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IUTE_eng_right-e1775682361222-600x175.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"79\" \/><\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The series celebrates ERSO\u2019s prestigious centenary season, bringing together masterpieces of world classics and Estonian music to the Estonia Concert Hall, performed under the baton of the orchestra\u2019s maestros.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\r\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\r\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the opening concert of the series in October, Chief Conductor <\/span><b>Olari Elts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">leads the orchestra in a performance of <\/span><b>Edvard Grieg\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> popular Peer Gynt Suite No. 2, featuring the poignant and nostalgic \"Solveig\u2019s Song.\" These very pieces accompanied the birth of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra in 1926, when a trio of musicians <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the predecessor of today\u2019s orchestra <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> first performed on a live radio broadcast. One of the evening\u2019s main attractions is <\/span><b>Erkki-Sven T\u00fc\u00fcr\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Violin Concerto No. 3, titled \"Conversations with the Unknown.\" The orchestra is joined by the world-renowned violinist <\/span><b>Vadim Gluzman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the very soloist to whom the composer dedicated the work and who gave its world premiere in 2023. In the second half of the concert, the audience can enjoy <\/span><b>Witold Lutos\u0142awski\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> colorful Concerto for Orchestra, a masterpiece rich in atmosphere and infused with elements of Polish folk music.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For November, ERSO\u2019s Honorary Artistic Director for Life <\/span><b>Neeme J\u00e4rvi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has curated a delightful program of Estonian classics. <\/span><b>Eduard Tubin\u2019s<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Suite on Estonian Dance Tunes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> features soloist <\/span><b>Triin Ruubel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> performing simple and joyful Estonian melodies. To mark the orchestra\u2019s centennial, the humorous maestro has chosen <\/span><b>Joseph Haydn\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> spirited Symphony No. 100 (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Military<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">). The second half features <\/span><b>Villem Kapp\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> majestic Symphony No. 2, excerpts of which have also been performed at the Estonian Song Festivals. This concert also serves as the opening event of the ERSO Centenary Festival.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In February, ERSO\u2019s Artistic Advisor <\/span><b>Paavo J\u00e4rvi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> celebrates the orchestra\u2019s grand anniversary with a performance of <\/span><b>Ludwig van Beethoven\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> monumental <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Missa solemnis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Considered by the composer himself to be his life's work, the mass is filled with theatrical contrasts, operatic scale, and breathtakingly beautiful fugues. Joining the orchestra on stage are international soloists and the <\/span><b>Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\r\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\r\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In March, the renowned French cellist <\/span><b>Jean-Guihen Queyras<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> joins the orchestra at the invitation of Chief Conductor <\/span><b>Olari Elts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Alongside <\/span><b>Robert Schumann\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> romantic Cello Concerto and <\/span><b>Heino Eller\u2019s<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prelude in G minor<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the program includes a new work by the US-based composer of Estonian descent, <\/span><b>Lembit Beecher<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The crown jewel of the evening is <\/span><b>Igor Stravinsky\u2019s<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Rite of Spring<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a work that sparked the scandal of the century at its 1913 Paris premiere but opened the door to modernism.
