The programme features two cornerstones of Romantic music: <\/span><b>Edward Elgar\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> lyrical Cello Concerto and <\/span><b>Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> powerful <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New World Symphony<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The evening opens with an energetic spark <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013 <\/span><b>Erkki-Sven T\u00fc\u00fcr\u2019s<\/b> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tormiloits<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Incantation of the Tempest), a work dedicated to Veljo Tormis. The orchestra is led by Chief Conductor <\/span><b>Olari Elts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, with the world-renowned Hungarian cellist <\/span><b>Istv\u00e1n V\u00e1rdai<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as soloist for the Elgar concerto.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In January, ERSO welcomes the distinguished conductor <\/span><b>Andrew Manze<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, celebrated for his expertise in both early and Romantic music. The concert opens with the atmospheric tone poem <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serenade to Music <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by British composer <\/span><b>Ralph Vaughan Williams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The evening features the Estonian premiere of Symphony No. 8 by London-based Estonian composer <\/span><b>Mihkel Kerem<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a work Manze has previously recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The second half offers <\/span><b>Johannes Brahms\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> pastorally idyllic Second Symphony, filled with charming folk-like melodies and dance motifs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The April concert focuses on Romanticism and symphonic sea-poetry. The soloist for <\/span><b>Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> popular Piano Concerto No. 1 is <\/span><b>Havryil Sydoryk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, winner of last year\u2019s \u201cClassical Stars\u201d competition. Despite being a teenager, the virtuoso is already an experienced performer. Dutch conductor <\/span><b>Bas Wiegers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> leads the second half with impressionistic maritime works: <\/span><b>Jean Sibelius\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> mythological poem <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Oceanides<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>Claude Debussy\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> exquisite tonal portrait <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">La Mer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The concert opens with a new work by the young composer <\/span><b>Madli Marje Gildemann<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The season\u2019s final chords are traditionally struck by ERSO\u2019s Honorary Principal Conductor <\/span><b>Neeme J\u00e4rvi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who brings a bright selection of spring classics to the stage this May. Joining the maestro by special invitation is the charming pianist <\/span><b>Anna Shelest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who will perform as a soloist in three works: <\/span><b>Rudolf Tobias\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Piano Concerto and <\/span><b>Eduard Tubin\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Concertino from the treasury of Estonian classics, as well as <\/span><b>Richard Strauss\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> youthfully bravura <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Burleske<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
