Ahead of their December tour to Austria, <\/span>ERSO<\/b> presents its repertoire to the home audience. The programme features two cornerstones of Romantic music: <\/span>Edward Elgar\u2019s<\/b> lyrical Cello Concerto and <\/span>Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s<\/b> powerful <\/span>New World Symphony<\/span><\/i>. The evening opens with an energetic spark <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>Erkki-Sven T\u00fc\u00fcr\u2019s<\/b> Tormiloits<\/span><\/i> (Incantation of the Tempest), a work dedicated to Veljo Tormis. The orchestra is led by Chief Conductor <\/span>Olari Elts<\/b>, with the world-renowned Hungarian cellist <\/span>Istv\u00e1n V\u00e1rdai<\/b> as soloist for the Elgar concerto.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

In January, ERSO welcomes the distinguished conductor <\/span>Andrew Manze<\/b>, celebrated for his expertise in both early and Romantic music. The concert opens with the atmospheric tone poem <\/span>Serenade to Music <\/span><\/i>by British composer <\/span>Ralph Vaughan Williams<\/b>. The evening features the Estonian premiere of Symphony No. 8 by London-based Estonian composer <\/span>Mihkel Kerem<\/b> \u2013 <\/span>a work Manze has previously recorded with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The second half offers <\/span>Johannes Brahms\u2019<\/b> pastorally idyllic Second Symphony, filled with charming folk-like melodies and dance motifs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The April concert focuses on Romanticism and symphonic sea-poetry. The soloist for <\/span>Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Chopin\u2019s<\/b> popular Piano Concerto No. 1 is <\/span>Havryil Sydoryk<\/b>, winner of last year\u2019s \u201cClassical Stars\u201d competition. Despite being a teenager, the virtuoso is already an experienced performer. Dutch conductor <\/span>Bas Wiegers<\/b> leads the second half with impressionistic maritime works: <\/span>Jean Sibelius\u2019<\/b> mythological poem <\/span>The Oceanides<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Claude Debussy\u2019s<\/b> exquisite tonal portrait <\/span>La Mer<\/span><\/i>. The concert opens with a new work by the young composer <\/span>Madli Marje Gildemann<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The season\u2019s final chords are traditionally struck by ERSO\u2019s Honorary Principal Conductor <\/span>Neeme J\u00e4rvi<\/b>, who brings a bright selection of spring classics to the stage this May. Joining the maestro by special invitation is the charming pianist <\/span>Anna Shelest<\/b>, who will perform as a soloist in three works: <\/span>Rudolf Tobias\u2019s<\/b> Piano Concerto and <\/span>Eduard Tubin\u2019s<\/b> Concertino from the treasury of Estonian classics, as well as <\/span>Richard Strauss\u2019s<\/b> youthfully bravura <\/span>Burleske<\/span><\/i>. From the works of <\/span>Pyotr Tchaikovsky<\/b>, Neeme J\u00e4rvi has selected the popular and romantic suite <\/span>Mozartiana<\/span><\/i>.<\/span>\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n
