Photo: Marco Borggreve.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>On 15 and <\/strong><strong>17 November, one of the brightest stars of the world\u2019s concert stages, Baiba Skride \u2014 invited to Tallinn and Tartu by ERSO\u2019s guest principal conductor, Olari Elts \u2014 will front the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, in order to present the audience with Estonian music classic Heino Eller\u2019s Violin Concerto. In addition to the concert performances, the piece will also be recorded.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eller\u2019s Violin Concerto is a work that is difficult to overestimate \u2014 Eller composed the very first violin concerto in the history of Estonian music. In addition to Tallinn, the Violin Concerto will also be played in Tartu \u2014 Eller\u2019s birthplace, and the historical performances will be celebrated with the release of a CD. Baiba Skride, describing her first encounter with Heino Eller\u2019s Violin Concerto, said, \u201cEller\u2019s Concerto is rather complex both technically and musically, yet very beautiful. Because I enjoy new challenges, encountering the less known piece was particularly special and exciting for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When commenting on his choice of soloist, Olari Elts was resolute: \u201cWho else, if not Baiba \u2014 a violin soloist in excellent form, playing the best-known stages of the world, and having grown up in Latvia is best placed to give credit to Estonian music. Latvians understand us and our art almost as we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second part of the concert will feature Stravinsky\u2019s figuratively expressive fairytale-esque ballet music <em>Petrushka<\/em>, and the concert will be opened by the Overture to the opera <em>Die Gezeichneten<\/em> (The Stigmatized) by Austrian composer Franz Schreker \u2014 next spring will mark a hundred years since its first performance and the opera has been re-introduced to the repertoires of several European theatres during the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baiba Skride<\/strong>\u2019s natural approach to her music-making has endeared her to some of today\u2019s most important conductors and orchestras worldwide. She is consistently invited for her refreshing interpretations, her sensitivity and delight in the music. The list of prestigious orchestras with whom she has worked include the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orkest. Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and NHK Symphony. Notable conductors she collaborates with include Christoph Eschenbach, Thierry Fischer, Paavo and Neeme J\u00e4rvi, Andris Nelsons, Santtu Matias Rouvali, Vasily Petrenko, Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin, John Storg\u00e5rds and Kazuki Yamada.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28579\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28579\" style=\"width: 284px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.erso.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Olari-Elts-foto-autor-Ants-Vahter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-28579\" src=\"https:\/\/www.erso.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Olari-Elts-foto-autor-Ants-Vahter-284x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28579\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Olari Elts. Photo: Ants Vahter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Olari Elts<\/strong>\u2019 passion for distinctive programming rich with invention has earned him much praise on the international music scene. He appears with orchestras such as Seattle Symphony, Wiener Symphoniker, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orquesta Sinfonica do Porto Casa da Musica, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017\/18 season sees Elts return to Finnish Radio Symphony, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, RTE Dublin Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, Slovenia Philharmonic of Llubljana, Robert-Schumann Philharmonie Chemnitz and debut with Seoul Philharmonic. Crossing genres, Elts tours to the Konzerthaus Berlin with the theatre-concert production which combines Mendelssohn and Shakespeare\u2019s \u201cMidsummer Night\u2019s Dream\u201d with the Tallinn-based theatre company NO99. For Leonard Bernstein\u2019s 100<sup>th<\/sup>anniversary, Elts conducts the film \u201cOn the Waterfront\u201d with live orchestral accompaniment of the soundtrack both with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg and on a return to Orquesta Sinfonica do Porto Casa da Musica. Recently Elts conducted Orchestre National de France at the Paris Pr\u00e9sence Festival featuring new works by Kaija Saariaho, Ond\u0159ej Ad\u00e1mek and Helena Tulve. With the National Arts Orchestra Ottawa he conducted the world premiere of Gary Kulesha\u2019s\u00a0<em>Diary of Virginia Woolf<\/em>. This season sees the continuation of a recording project of works by Estonian composer Heino Eller including Eller\u2019s violin concerto with Baiba Skride and the Estonian National Philharmonic. Elts\u2019 discography for Ondine includes a disc last season of Erkki-Sven T\u00fc\u00fcr works with Tapiola Sinfonietta including the viola concerto with Lawrence Power, and a release of T\u00fc\u00fcr\u2019s Symphony No. 5 for electric guitar, orchestra, big band and the accordion concerto\u00a0<em>Prophecy<\/em>.
