In addition to works by Scriabin and Brahms, a Violin Concerto by Sibelius will be performed featuring a new leader of the orchestra, Triin Ruubel, who is making her first solo appearance with ENSO.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Popular concert serie<\/strong>s<\/p>\n<p>This season we bring you six exciting and diverse concert series: <strong>MAESTRO,<\/strong> presenting a magnificent quartet of conductors \u2014 Neeme J\u00e4rvi, Kristjan J\u00e4rvi, Nikolai Alexeev and Olli Mustonen; <strong>HARMONY<\/strong>, connecting the harmonies of music and the cosmos; <strong>ESPRESSIVO, <\/strong>bringing together film music, percussion music and Beethoven\u2019s celebrated Symphony No. 5; <strong>ROMANTICISM<\/strong>, full of emotion and fantasy; <strong>CITY LIGHTS<\/strong>, taking audiences on lively tours of Paris, Prague, Vienna and Tallinn; and <strong>NAUTIMUS<\/strong>, offering vibrant tastes and musical experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Estonian classics can be heard at a concert entitled \u201cLegendary\u201d which celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Estonian Composers\u2019 Union, and also at a concert entitled \u201cP\u00e4rt and Mahler\u201d dedicated to the 80th birthday of Arvo P\u00e4rt. New works by Estonian composers are included in the programme of the concert \u201cSpring in Tallinn\u201d. Alongside some of the best-known compositions in music history (Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 5, Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 1), audiences can hear film music by John Williams, Mussorgsky&#8217;s cycle \u201cPictures at an Exhibition\u201d together with an animation film of the same name by Tezuka Osamu. At the Nordea Concert Hall and Narva Cultural Centre Geneva, Gustav Holst\u2019s magnum opus \u201cThe Planets\u201d will be presented together with a documentary of the same name based on some recent cosmic discoveries. Maestros Kalle Randalu and Neeme J\u00e4rvi will continue with the performance of Beethoven piano concertos, and a glamorous musical fashion show entitled \u201cFashion in the Opera\u201d will bring together Italian opera music and elegant evening outfits by Katrin Kuldma.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to principal conductor Neeme J\u00e4rvi, ENSO looks forward to performing with guest conductors including Paavo J\u00e4rvi and Kristjan J\u00e4rvi, Nikolai Alexeev, Olari Elts, Paul M\u00e4gi and Olli Mustonen. ENSO\u2019s 89th season will end with two unrivalled masterpieces from the Romantic period \u2014 Bruckner\u2019s Symphony No. 4 and Brahms\u2019 Violin Concerto conducted by Kristiina Poska.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New and interesting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two concerts will feature <strong>ENSO<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s chamber ensembles<\/strong>. \u201cThe Two Pigeons\u201d presents chamber music variants of operatic and ballet works. \u201cParis. La Belle \u00c9poque\u201d takes the audience on a tour of Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. The programme includes, among other compositions, a concert suite from Stravinsky\u2019s ballet \u201cThe Soldier\u2019s Tale\u201d. On three occasions the audience is invited to a pre-concert talk and performance at 6:00 pm that should serve as a brief musical and cultural introduction to the symphony concert. On 23 October, historian <strong>David Vseviov<\/strong> will present an overview of revolutionary events in Europe at the end of the 19th\u00a0century and beginning of the 20th century and <strong>Sten Lassmann<\/strong> will perform the piano version of the \u201cWalpurg Burlesque\u201d (the same piece will be heard later in an orchestral arrangement). On 13\u00a0November, ENSO\u2019s string section leaders will warm up the audience for the concert \u201cBeethoven &amp; Randalu\u201d with a performance of Beethoven\u2019s String Quartet No. 1. On 25\u00a0March, the \u201cVienna\u201d programme will be introduced by an expert on Germanic culture, <strong>Kristel Pappel<\/strong>, who will take the audience on a musical history tour of early 20th century Vienna; Gustav Mahler\u2019s Piano Quartet will also be performed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For the first time in history: a Baltic tour by the premier Baltic orchestras and concert in Cologne Philharmonic Hall <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This spring, the premier orchestras of the three Baltic states will undertake a Baltic tour with mutual visits to all three capitals. Together with its principal conductor Neeme J\u00e4rvi, ENSO is performing at the Great Guild Hall in Riga on 31 March and at Vilnius Congress Concert Hall on 1 April. The <strong>Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra<\/strong> will visit Tallinn on 11\u00a0March under the baton of Martynas \u0160ta\u0161kus with the internationally acclaimed Latvian pianist Vestard \u0160imkus as a soloist. The <strong>Latvian National Symphony Orchestra<\/strong> will perform in Tallinn on 9\u00a0April along with its principal conductor Andris Poga and violin soloist Eva Bindere.<\/p>\n<p>On 5\u00a0May, ENSO will make its debut at <strong>Cologne Philharmonic Hall<\/strong>, where it is appearing as part of the contemporary music festival \u201cAcht Br\u00fccken\u201d (\u201cEight Bridges\u201d).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matinee concerts for the young<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seeking to expand the horizons of students, Estonia\u2019s premier orchestra has included in its programme a whole range of one-hour matinee concerts aimed at young people.
