Alongside the classical repertoire, he has taken part in numerous Estonian and world premieres of contemporary music. He has performed across Europe with musicians including Simone Lamsma, Theodor Sink, Sophia Rahman, Tim Crawford, Triin Ruubel, Daniel Hamin Go, Maria W\u0142oszczowska, Hans Christian Aavik and Andres Kaljuste. As a member of the Estonian Festival Orchestra and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, he has performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Carnegie Hall in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Metspalu holds two master\u2019s degrees <em>cum laude<\/em> from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre: in performance, under Professor Henry-David Varema, and in chamber music, under Senior Lecturer Marrit Gerretz-Traksmann. As part of the ERASMUS+ programme, he furthered his studies at the Paris Conservatoire in the cello classes of Marc Coppey and Pauline Bartissol, and at the Berlin University of the Arts in Wolfgang Boettcher\u2019s cello class. In addition, he completed the \u201cCycle sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9\u201d programme at the Paris municipal conservatory with the jury\u2019s highest distinction, studying under Pauline Bartissol and Pierre Strauch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Metspalu is currently a doctoral student and junior research fellow at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where his research focuses on Estonian music for solo cello. During the 2024\/25 season, he was a member of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.
