Estonian National Symphony Orchestra announces an audition for a

FRENCH HORN SECTION PLAYER

(full-time, commencing January 2024; monthly remuneration 1640 Euros in gross sum or 2181 Euros excluding social tax).

The audition will be held in two rounds – a video round and a stage round.
To apply, please send your application and CV (no official application forms are provided) to audition@erso.ee, with a quoting reference “Horns”,  by November 24th, 2023 at the latest, along with:

  • a link to one uncut video recording* where you perform Hermann Neuling’s Bagatelle with piano accompaniment;
  • a link to one uncut video recording* where you perform (in order of own preference):
    – Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, 1st movement: low horn solo (from rehearsal number 17 until 20);
    – Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, 3rd movement: 4th horn solo (bars 83-98);
    – Richard Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel: 1st horn solo from beginning to rehearsal number 1 and 3rd horn solo from rehearsal number 28 until 29;
    – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, A Major 4th movement (from bar 167 until the end).

Invitations to the stage audition will be sent to selected candidates by December 11th the latest, after the initial review of the sent videos by the audition committee.

The stage audition will be held on January 8th 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at the Estonia Concert Hall.

Repertoire for the stage round:

I Round

  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Horn Concerto No 2., 1st movement and
  • orchestral excerpts**.

II Round

  • Hermann Neuling Bagatelle and
  • orchestral excerpts**.

Audition details:

The stage audition will take place during the course of one day. Only live performances are possible. ENSO will not supply participants with visa invitations and will not pay for travelling nor other costs incurred by candidates.

Job details:

Tutti rehearsals (4hrs daily) are normally held on working days, concerts are usually on Fridays.  The working language in ERSO is Estonian.

* The video recording must be filmed with one camera, the player facing the camera so that also both, the player’s hands and the instrument, can completely be seen throughout. Any post-processing of the sound or picture is prohibited.  The recording should be un-cut, all required music can be recorded in one take. The recording must be uploaded to YouTube.

** Orchestral excerpts and solos are available on our website under the audition announcement for the video round immediately, for the stage round will be sent with the invitations.
